We design, manage and execute projects, studies and interventions for the conservation- restoration of immovable and movable heritage, including historic interiors. We are able to handle projects of varying size/duration/complexity, in the most diverse contexts of the historic environment.

Our work is guided by a strict compliance with ethical/deontological and quality standards, following a work philosophy based on responsibility, seriousness and professionalism.

> We have extensive experience in managing conservation-restoration works of varying complexity, involving one or several specialties / materials:

  1. stone materials in archaeological, sculptural or built heritage (including masonry and mosaics);
  2. stucco, plasters and render, and other mortar-based finishes;
  3. ceramics, glazed tiles, and ceramic or glass mosaics;
  4. metals and metal alloys, in statuary, archaeological objects, and metalworking;
  5. paintings, including wall paintings, decorative paintings, and paintings on canvas, wood or metal;
  6. wood objects, such as gilded and/or polychrome woodcarvings, liturgical furniture, carpentry;
  7. other specialties, such as stained glass or textiles.

Our teams work directly or in partnership with companies and professionals from different specialties, depending on the needs of the intervention programmes or other project components, e.g. installation of infrastructures (hydraulics, scenic lighting, bird deterrence, lightning rods). We approach each intervention based on solid critical analyses, focused on the cultural values that the objects hold for their heritage communities.

> Documentation is an essential part of our work, in its photographic, graphic, technical-methodological and statistical components, contributing to a greater knowledge on the cultural object and ensuring the recording of the intervention for future reference.

Portfolio: Conservation-restoration

> We develop conservation-restoration design-build projects, involving diverse teams, with technicians, partners and suppliers with whom we have worked for many years, to present the best solutions and intervention methods. Together, we carry out the entire process: from preliminary studies, characterisation analyses and conservation condition and diagnosis – of historical buildings and monuments, archaeological structures and decorative elements –, to the conservation-restoration intervention. Such were the following projects: conservation and reactivation of fountains and spouts in the historic centre of Évora; conservation of the Canos Fountain, in Torres Vedras; and conservation of the Monument to D. José I, in Lisbon.

> We develop conservation-restoration projects, putting together or joining design teams involving specialists from pertinent areas, such as conservation-restoration, architecture, engineering, archaeology, or art history, working in close collaboration, as was the case with the Palace of Estoi; or the rock engravings of the Côa Valley.

> We carry out architectural (in partnership with colleagues in the field) and conservation condition surveys of heritage structures and elements, including the mapping of degradation patterns, to support projects, maintenance plans or conservation management plans. In this context, we can highlight the surveys we carried out for the Aqueduct of Segovia, for the Jerónimos Monastery cloister and for the Águas Livres Aqueduct.

Portfolio: Projects/Studies

> We implement urgent maintenance actions in situations of instability in heritage elements that require immediate intervention – which we carry out after a careful analysis of causes and study of solutions to be presented to the Client, as was the case with the Temple of Évora.

> We make recommendations and draw up maintenance plans adapted to the specificities and environmental context of the cultural asset, taking into account issues of feasibility and available human and material resources.

> In addition, we plan and carry out scheduled maintenance actions, which, with a relatively low financial investment, ensure the durability and sustainability of the conservation-restoration interventions. This type of actions was carried out at the Batalha Cinema, in Oporto; and at the Cloister of the Jerónimos Monastery, where the service included a brief information action given by our professionals.

Porteflio: Maintenance

> We provide consultancy and technical support in conservation-restoration to national and international public and private organisations.

At an international level, we can highlight:

1998, Buenos Aires, Argentina - collaboration in the organisation and coordination of a pilot site for the restoration of the façades of the Teatro Colón, on an invitation from the Istituto Centrale per il Restauro, in Rome, for the Government of the city of Buenos Aires.

2002, Accra, India - integration in a team of international experts to provide support to local teams of conservation-restoration technicians, in the project “Conservation, restoration, upgradation and beautification of the Taj Mahal and the surrounding areas”, at the invitation of the World Monuments Fund, New York, USA.

2022-2023, Abu Dhabi, UAE - Design and implementation of stabilisation tests on structures in the Hili Archaeological Park, Al Ain, in a project coordinated by the Italian company Hydea S.p.A. for the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) of Abu Dhabi.
