Back in 1994, we believed that a new way of carrying out Conservation-restoration was possible – approaching the subject of heritage as a primary source of knowledge essential for its transmission; interdisciplinary dialogue as an irreplaceable tool to uncover this knowledge; and the critical analysis of Conservation-restoration as an effective aggregator of this dialogue and its translation into surface treatment.
Therefore, from the beginning, we have an acute awareness of our capabilities and limits and, in addition, a sense of responsibility that compels us to see the act of conservation as a moment of reflection. Ultimately, worked insecurity is a blessing and uncritical security is extremely dangerous and, therefore, today as 30 years ago, in the company's modus operandi we maintain primo la testa, dopo le mani (C. Brandi).
We maintain as well an unshakable faith in the importance of the discipline, systematics and deontology of Conservation-restoration to ensure present and future transmission of cultural assets. And hence the efforts we persistently make to follow conceptual, technical and technological developments that can improve our work – because, for Nova Conservação, innovative conservation is not an oxymoron, it is a commitment.
30 years later, we continue to learn from the cultural assets we preserve, from the people for whom we preserve them, and from the people who help us carry out this conservation. It has been a privilege that we will continue working on to deserve.
With acknowledged thanks to everyone who has accompanied us on this journey,
Nova Conservação
